Microsoft Mobile Devices.
Mar 2014 – present.
In this position, I worked on both short-term tactical architecture projects as well as longer term structural
processes to drive innovation into R&D teams. Examples of the shorter term projects include designing the
architecture to bring Rich Call (RCS), VoLTE and Operator video calls into Lumia Tablets; defining the local
connectivity architecture to power tablet, PC and phone companionship experiences. The longer-term projects
focused on defining a scalable process for creating and filing IPR inside the Microsoft Mobile Devices Group;
defining the process and execution of an ideation and hackathon strategy for Microsoft Mobile Devices Group, as
part of a company-wide Hackathon in July 2014, the results were 8000 registered participants and 3000 hacks.
Head of the Tech Community.
CTO Unit, Nokia.
Jan 2012 – Mar 2014.
The purpose of the position, as defined by the CEO, was to drive Nokia R&D to higher functioning state, increase
risk taking and speed innovations to market. My team acted as a tiger-team, working with R&D teams across the
company, to build R&D and technical competencies; identify and resolve productization bottlenecks and to improve
innovation. Part of our initiatives were to stage a series of over 20 Nokia-wide hackathons for achieving three key
goals: driving innovation; building R&D competencies and driving engagement. Results were that over 30 hacks
were put on product roadmaps; over 50 invention reports were filed; dozens of product innovations were vetted
and over 1000 internal developers created their first Windows Phone app. Key technology themes were defined
across all of business groups to improve R&D focus. These technologies included Nokia PureView imaging, HTML5
application development, Software Defined Radio, and Internet of Things. My team was responsible for running
Architecture Camps across the main business groups to resolve technical blocks during product creation and review
lessons learned from the previous product cycles.

also created the processes for capturing operator and ecosystem requirements, resulting in a 2-fold improvement
over other existing Nokia Platforms. I helped to define the application ecosystem approach for Meego and oversaw
management of $10 million fund for application creation. Finally, I worked with a series of partner managers to
define the application experiences with major application providers such as Mozilla, Foursquare, Twitter, LinkedIn,
etc. and delivered them as part of the Nokia N9.
